One more case of COVID-19 diagnosed in Queensland”

The premier added authorities have been in touch with 18 close contacts of the man. Ms Palaszczuk said her understanding is the latest case is a friend of the man.

It was revealed overnight that the strain the man contracted is that of the highly infectious United Kingdom variant, which was linked to a previous positive case, a doctor at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital.

"We are a little bit concerned about people who attended the Carindale shopping ... between noon and 2.16pm on Saturday, so if you were there then, we would like you to come forward and get tested".

An AFLW match between Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions is meant to take place at Cranbourne's Casey Fields, in Melbourne's south-east, with Lions players now being retested for COVID-19.

He tested positive on Thursday and visited at least nine different venues across the city after he became highly infectious last Friday. North Melbourne is also scheduled to play Gold Coast tonight in Queensland.

Genomic testing on Friday confirmed the 26-year-old's case was linked to a hospital worker whose infection was announced on March 12.

The man's infection of the United Kingdom strain has been linked to a doctor who treated COVID-19 patients at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Queensland has recorded one new case of COVID-19 in the community, but a question remains as to how the person became infected.

Contact tracing is now underway, with Queensland Health expected to issue a public health alert with more information regarding potential exposure sites as the information becomes available.

Snap lockdowns, social distancing rules and speedy contact tracing systems have helped Australia to contain fresh clusters.

Health authorities in NSW, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania have advised anyone who visited the Queensland exposure sites against entering the states.

In an attempt to minimise the spread to vulnerable people, aged care and disability centres, hospitals and correctional facilities within the Brisbane and Moreton City Council areas will be closed to visitors from midday today.

Queensland reported another six virus cases in hotel quarantine on Friday, taking the number of active cases to 69.
