Police search for suspect in violent Brampton kidnapping”

Police say they were called to a residence on Adventura Road, near Mayfield Road and Mississauga Road, just before 3 a.m. for reports of a disturbance.

Police say a 24-year-old man was playing basketball with friends when a confrontation with the 23-year-old led to him being stabbed.

"We attended (and) there was a female that was screaming, (police) heard screaming somewhere inside the residence".

Police entered the home and following an interaction with the man inside, officers discharged their firearm.

"While still in the vehicle, the man managed to flee from the garage with the woman still inside", they said. Heather Cannon told reporters Sunday morning. They were last seen travelling in a black Honda Civic with the licence plate number BZHE247.

Ontario's police watchdog says it is also investigating the officer's involvement in the case, however police say they are not aware of any injuries as a result of the officer firing their weapon.

Police say Garwood is considered armed and unsafe.

The suspect and victim are known to each other, but police wouldn't elaborate. "At this time, it is not known whether the man was struck by gunfire", added the SIU.

She said Sunday morning they do not know the pair's whereabouts. "However, the SIU's mandate was invoked as per the Special Investigations Unit Act because a police officer discharged a firearm at a person", the SIU's statement continued.

"At this point, we believe she is in that vehicle unwillingly", Cannon said.

Police said they are looking for Kwami Garwood, 21, who is allegedly armed and should not be approached.

"We believe this is a kidnapping incident and we are now concerned for [Ouk's] safety and well being", Cannon said.

The SIU investigates when someone dies, suffers injuries, or is sexually assaulted during an interaction with police.
