Stabbing incident at North Vancouver library leaves several people injured”

NORTH VANCOUVER, CANADA: Police on Saturday took into custody a lone attacker who allegedly killed a woman and injured multiple people at a public library located in the suburbs of Vancouver.

Officers have taken one suspect into custody, who appears to have been operating alone.

Six others were injured in the attack at the Lynn Valley Public Library.

Police apprehended a man in his 20s near a library and mall where people were stabbed Saturday afternoon.

"We haven´t spoken with him yet, but our suspect has had police interactions in the past". Police said their injuries vary in severity.

IHIT investigators spent Sunday combing the area for evidence and interviewing witnesses, Jang said, while RCMP officers were looking after the victims, their families and the first responders who attended the scene.

'Lynn Valley and the whole District of North Vancouver is a close-knit, quiet community. We believe we know the how, the what, the where and the when.

Andrew Cocking, who lives 500 meters from the library, told AFP that the attack took place in a generally quiet area. It is our job now to determine why, " he told a news conference near the library on Saturday.

"I saw people getting tended to by paramedics, they were being given first aid next to a vehicle and also next to a restaurant, and pulled away on stretchers", he said.

"We were driving up Lynn Valley Road and we saw a woman that was covered in blood and waving her arms and we thought it was a auto accident", he says.

Mossop said they saw several victims within about 100 metres of each other.

"There was a man, there was an older woman, there was a younger woman, a mom - a random group of individuals in the wrong place at the wrong time", Mossop said.

"It seemed like he was just running in a direction, whoever was in his path happened to be victimised, " Mossop said of the attacker.

Ethan Jackson, who works at a dental office nearby, described hearing a woman scream then seeing a man lying on the ground outside covering his face, surrounded by blood.

"Everything little thing is important on this one".

North Vancouver RCMP officers were called to the Lynn Valley Library around 1:40 pm on March 27 for reports of a stabbing.

"My heart is in North Vancouver tonight", the Canadian Prime Minister said in a tweet to the families of the victims, adding "To all those affected by the violent incident in Lynn Valley, know that all Canadians sympathize with you and wish a speedy recovery for the wounded".
