Canada expects to start receiving Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines next month

Canada expects to start receiving Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines next month”

The vaccine rollout across the country has continued to ramp up, and the Times report says the delay isn't going to affect the Biden administration's timeline to provide enough vaccines for all American adults.

Johnson & Johnson said on Wednesday it had found a problem with a batch of drug substance for its COVID-19 vaccine, which did not meet quality standards at Emergent Biosolutions' production site in Baltimore, Maryland.

This latest vaccine news comes at a time of increased concerns around the AstraZeneca shot after the NACI advised provinces to suspended the use of the vaccine for anyone under the age of 55 as a precautionary measure, pending further investigation.

None of the contaminated vaccine made it out of the plant, a federal official said.

In a statement, Johnson & Johnson said a batch of drug substance failed its quality test.

"This batch was never advanced to the filling and finishing stages of our manufacturing process", the emailed statement from the company said.

In a statement provided to Fox Business, Johnson & Johnson said it expects to deliver its vaccine at a rate of more than one billion doses by the end of 2021.

A J&J spokesman said earlier Wednesday that the company met the end-of-March goal, but did not respond to questions about whether the Emergent plant in Baltimore had been cleared by FDA.

Johnson & Johnson said Monday (29 March) it would start delivering its single-shot COVID vaccine to Europe on April 19, giving the continent a boost as it struggles to speed up its vaccination drive.

As of Wednesday, J&J had provided about 6.8 million doses, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's online vaccine tracker. It said about 15 million doses of vaccine were ruined.
