Fully vaccinated Americans can resume travel, updated CDC guidance states

Fully vaccinated Americans can resume travel, updated CDC guidance states”

Fully vaccinated people can start traveling again if they take precautions such as wearing a mask and observing social distancing, USA health authorities said Friday.

In its updated guidance, the agency still "recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated, because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that fully vaccinated people can resume traveling at a low risk to themselves, according to a report from the New York Times.

More than one in five adults in the United States is now fully vaccinated, CDC director Rochelle Walensky said at a briefing.

The CDC continues to advise anyone who hasn't been fully vaccinated to avoid traveling, but if it is necessary for those people to travel, the CDC recommends they be tested one to three days before travel and then once more three to five days after returning home.

Khan said the update reinforces the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines, and is another incentive for people to get vaccinated. CDC still recommends fully vaccinated people have proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to returning to the USA, and get tested 3-5 days later. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the last required dose of vaccine.

It's still recommended, however, that individuals who are not fully vaccinated have their Easter dinner and egg hunts with only the people in their household or outdoors while 6 feet apart to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the CDC said. The CDC does note, however, that Americans still need to follow the guidelines set by other countries for worldwide travel, including testing or quarantining. The CDC discourages non-essential domestic travel by those who are unvaccinated.

However, the agency still recommends that even fully vaccinated travelers wear a mask in public, and take other public health precautions, such as social distancing and avoiding crowds, and practicing hand hygiene.

The report also noted that almost 1.6 million passengers boarded domestic flights on Sunday, which was the most on any day since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
