Queensland finds 'missing link' case that sparked Brisbane lockdown”

'Following executive meetings today with Public Health we have just been instructed that staff who entered ward 5D between 8pm Tuesday 23rd March and 12pm Friday 26th March will be required to quarantine for a period of 14 days from the time they were in ward 5D, ' the email obtained by The Courier-Mail said.

It has reported about 22,000 local cases, including 909 deaths, since the start of the pandemic, far fewer than most other developed nations. It comes as Princess Alexandra hospital, where the two clusters have reportedly come from, went into a strict lockdown overnight.

This is up from the more than 1700 yesterday.

"Testing and respiratory clinics will not require a GP referral for the duration of the greater Brisbane lockdown- 5pm AEST Monday 29 March to 11:59pm AEST Tuesday 6 April", the website reads, despite previously stating that the lockdown would come to an end on Thursday at 5pm.

"If you are outdoors and can't socially distance, put a mask on, it's as simple as that", the Premier said.

Anyone attending food or beverage establishments will have to be seated, and won't be able to order food from the bar.

In broader measures, gatherings at homes across the state will remain capped at 30, dancing in public venues is banned and businesses must maintain distancing of one person per two square metres.

The lifted restrictions will mean Easter services can go ahead, and there can be 100 per cent capacity if the seating is ticketed.

Today's new case, a nurse, is understood to have acquired the virus some time ago and is no longer infectious.

Dr Young said finding the "missing link" was an "enormous relief".

The state processed a record 34,711 Covid-19 tests in the past 24 hours.

"But, like I said, it depends on the testing rates again".

Casual contacts will need to get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result and monitor for symptoms.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young this morning.

And there will be restrictions on aged care, hospitals, disability care and correctional facilities with no personal visitors allowed until the end of restrictions on April 15.

Dr Young has also pleaded with people to make sure they leave contact details at venues.

Several restrictions remain in place for the whole state during the next 14 days.

The Queensland outbreak has jumped the border, with a case in neighbouring New South Wales (NSW) prompting the cancellation of the popular Bluesfest music festival in the coastal tourist town of Byron Bay and the reintroduction of mobility curbs in four council areas in the north of the state.
