ER doc theorized that lack of oxygen stopped Floyd’s heart”

Langenfeld said that every minute a patient spends in cardiac arrest without immediate CPR decreases the chance of a good outcome.

Dr Lagenfeld could not recall whether or not Floyd was still cuffed on arrival but he did remember seeing indentations from the handcuffs on his wrists.

Mr Chauvin, 45, has denied multiple charges of murder and manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty, arguing that he did only what he was trained to do in his 19 years as a police officer.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo answers questions on the sixth day of the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 5 in a still image from video.

Nelson's strategy from the start has been to make this case about more than the 9mins 29 seconds during which Chauvin, 45, knelt on 46-year-old Floyd's neck.

Floyd was declared dead at 9:25 pm, about 30 minutes after he arrived at the hospital and less than 90 minutes after police arrived outside the Cup Foods grocery store to arrest Floyd on suspicion of his using a fake $20 bill to buy cigarettes. Nelson has not indicated whether Chauvin will testify in his own defense.

On Monday he said that he believes "that the one singular incident we will be judged forever on will be our use of force".

The motions came at the start of the second week of the highly anticipated trial after a first week dominated by a slew of harrowing footage from surveillance, cell phone and body-worn camera and ending with devastating testimony from Lieutenant Richard Zimmerman, the city's most senior homicide officer, who slammed Chauvin's use of force as 'totally unnecessary'.

Among the group were an off-duty Minneapolis firefighter and EMT-who said she was ignored after repeatedly offering her assistance-as well as an MMA fighter who tried to explain that Chauvin's chokehold was cutting off Floyd's circulation.

Dr. Langenfeld testified that Floyd was in the care of his emergency department for "approximately 30 minutes" and then he pronounced Floyd formally dead.

He took the stand at the beginning of Week Two at former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin's murder trial, as prosecutors sought to establish that it was Chauvin's knee on the Black man's neck that killed him last May.

Arradondo, who in 2017 became the first black person to lead the city's police force, fired Chauvin and three other officers who were involved the day after Floyd's death, which led to global protests against police brutality.

"Mr. George Floyd's tragic death was not due to a lack of training - the training was there". "Chauvin knew what he was doing".

'It is unfathomable to me that you felt it appropriate to force my child to watch George Floyd's murder on television in your classroom, and then move on with his day as if nothing had happened, ' the letter stated in part.

Prosecutor Jerry Blackwell had already told the jury Arradondo would "not mince any words" during his testimony.

What did the police chief say?

'To be able to have the chief of police... to under oath testify is clearly going to be of importance'.

He said testimony from early last week was the most compelling.

'He will not mince any words. "He's very clear, he'll be very decisive that this was excessive force". Prosecutors stated that when Floyd was loaded into the ambulance, he had no pulse. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner concluded Floyd died of cardiac arrest from the restraint and neck compression, also noting that Floyd had heart disease and fentanyl in his system. "So you want to always have de-escalation layered into those actions of using force", Arradondo, who was responsible for firing Chauvin past year, said. Several teenagers also testified how they begged the officers to stop as Floyd was "gasping for air."When paramedics finally arrived at the scene, Chauvin had to be instructed to get off Floyd".

The teacher's identity was not revealed but it was also reported that the teacher responded to all the letters and questions from teachers and parents with an outline of the assignment project stating that the students would be "acting as actual jurors in the trial".
