Sources say the order will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning and last for four weeks.

The move will force non-essential stores to resort to curbside pick-up only and non-essential aisles of big box stores will be restricted It's the first time the Ford government has placed such restrictions on big box retailers.

Ontario's previous stay-at-home order went into effect on January 14 and was lifted almost two months later on March 8.

Big box stores will be required to rope off non-essential items to focus only on the sales of essentials like groceries, pharmacies and gardening items - a new measure during the pandemic, sources say. Under that order, a 50 per cent capacity limit on all retail settings, prohibition of personal care services and limiting outdoor gatherings to no more than five people. There were nine confirmed B.1.1.7 variant cases and 466 have screened positive for a variant of concern.

The government will also extend booking for COVID-19 vaccination appointments to more age groups through its provincial booking system, for public health regions with highly impacted neighbourhoods, on Friday, April 9, 2021.

The province will also be organizing mobile vaccination teams and pop-up clinics to administer vaccines in hot spot neighbourhoods in Toronto and Peel Region.

The province has reported more than 3,000 new COVID cases per day since Sunday, with 3,215 new cases today.
