The suspect was identified as Larry Bollin, 27, of Grimes County.

A gunman opened fire on Thursday at a cabinet-making plant in Texas where he worked, killing one person and wounding six others before he was taken into custody in the latest of several mass shootings in the United States over the past three weeks.

One person shot at Kent Moore has died and four others shot there were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to Bryan police chief Eric Buske.

Further details released by the KBTX revealed that the shooting took place at an industrial park in Bryan, a town between Austin and Houston.

As of this posting, police are still searching for a suspect.

According to the company's website, Kent Moore Cabinets is headquartered in Bryan and employs more than 600 people statewide.

The state trooper who was shot while pursuing the suspect was is in serious but stable condition, the Texas Department of Public Safety said on Twitter.

The FBI said in a statement it was "aware of the incident that occurred today in Bryan", but the Bryan Police Department is leading the investigation. They have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting.

A sixth person was taken to the hospital because of an asthma attack, he said. A strong majority supported requiring background checks for all gun purchases, and most backed temporarily taking guns away from people deemed risky to themselves and others.

The latest shooting in Texas on Thursday came hours after President Joe Biden and his Attorney General Merrick Garland announced limited measures to tackle a surge in USA gun violence in recent years.

"Gun control in the U.S.is a joke", one brother wrote a note. "The state will assist in any way needed to help prosecute the suspect", Abbott said.

Shortly after the shooting, Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement offering condolences to the victims and their families.

"I have been working closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers as they assist local law enforcement on a swift response to this criminal act".

The suspect in the shooting is at large, Mr James said.
