US Congress To Probe Trump Ally Over Sex-Trafficking Allegations

US Congress To Probe Trump Ally Over Sex-Trafficking Allegations”

The inquiry, according to a statement from the panel's Democratic and Republican leaders, will review allegations of sexual misconduct, illegal drug use, misuse of state identification records and campaign funds, and whether the congressman accepted a bribe or gift in violation of House rules.

In recent weeks United States media reported that the Department of Justice - during Trump's presidency - had opened its own investigation into accusations that Gaetz may have broken federal sex trafficking laws and been involved in a scheme to recruit and pay women for sex.

Separately Friday, a spokesperson for Gaetz said attorneys Marc Mukasey and Isabelle Kirshner will lead his legal team. Mr. Greenberg mailed fake letters to his opponent's school signed by a non-existent "very concerned student" who alleged the opponent had engaged in sexual misconduct with another student, according to an indictment from last June.

"Matt has always been a fighter. He's going to fight back against the unfounded allegations against him". His office issued a carefully worded, unTrumpian statement: "Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon", adding, like an afterthought, "It must also be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him".

Gaetz was defiant in a speaking appearance at the "Save America Summit" fundraiser at Trump Doral on Friday night.

"They couldn't beat Trump at the ballot box in 2016 so they tried impeachment and the witness box, that failed too so they ran to the mailbox with millions of ballots swirling around without any true verifiable connection to actual voters", Gaetz said, while praising Georgia's recently-passed election reform law.

CNN has previously reported that investigators are examining whether Gaetz's involvement with other young women broke federal sex-trafficking and prostitution laws, according to the person briefed on the probe and another person briefed on the matter.

Scheller may have been referring to media reports that Greenberg may cooperate with federal investigators in their probe of Gaetz. Greenberg entered a not guilty plea Friday through his attorney to a variety of charges ranging from child sex trafficking to fraud.

Mukasey is a former federal prosecutor in NY and is the son of Michael Mukasey, a former federal judge who served as attorney general in President George W. Bush's administration. He has represented former President Donald Trump's family business, the Trump Organization, in tax-related investigations in NY, and defended Edward Gallagher, a Navy SEAL whose war crimes case caught Trump's attention. Gallagher was acquitted of killing a wounded war prisoner in Iraq.

So far, no charges have been filed against him.

The attorney is one of the lawyers representing President Trump in two separate criminal probes in NY.
