AstraZeneca Vaccine rollout temporarily paused

AstraZeneca Vaccine rollout temporarily paused”

The AstraZeneca vaccine rollout will recommence once the Commonwealth Department of Health updates this information.

According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, local health experts will study the issue hounding the COVID-19 vaccine made by the British-Swedish firm.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last month that AstraZeneca must "catch up" on deliveries on the vaccine to the EU before exporting doses elsewhere, after the bloc introduced export controls on doses produced within it.

For those who already received their first AstraZeneca shots, the second doses may be administered by "around the end of May or June".

Bérangère Couillard, an MP with the ruling LREM party, said the government would "always remain cautious with people's health in France".

"Therefore, if you have received a first injection and are under 55 years old, you will be offered another vaccine 12 weeks after the first injection".

After the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said that there was a connection between the AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots, vaccination programmes in Europe have been affected with some countries placing age restrictions on who should receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

A poll by Odoxa-Backbone Consulting commissioned by French newspaper Le Figaro and published on Thursday found 71 percent of French people did not trust the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The health authority now recommends using an inoculation based on messenger RNA instead for a second shot. It said that while the United Kingdom government does not have the right to approve or reject vaccine exports, government officials knew about the shipments and "never publicly disclosed them".

Several clinical trials are looking at the efficacy of combining two types of vaccine.
