One dead and officer injured in Knoxville high school shooting”

Multiple agencies are on the scene of a shooting at Austin-East Magnet High School. As officers entered the restroom, the subject reportedly fired shots, striking an officer.

ONE PERSON HAS died following a shooting a high school in Tennessee in the USA, police have said.

The footage was of the KPD redeploying their helicopter to aid in the other shooting investigation.

Knox County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Kimberly Glenn said that someone from the department is heading to the hospital to check on the injured police officer, WVLT reported. "One male was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another was detained for further investigation".

The school was the subject of media reports in February after three students were shot to death over a three-week span.

Still, David Rausch, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said it was important to note that the student had not done anything with the firearm until the officers engaged with him.

A source, who was not authorized to talk about the incident at Austin-East Magnet High School, told Knox News that the situation was not "active" anymore.

"What a sad day for the family that lost their loved one and the families of the officers who had to get engaged in this", said Rausch, who spent 25 years on the Knoxville Police Department, including seven as chief of police.

Police said a reunification site has been established at the baseball field behind the high school. Authorities are still gathering more information about the "tragic situation", he said.

Asked about the overwhelming police response to a call that came in just before afternoon dismissal, Knoxville Police Chief Eve Thomas said, "We have a student, a school incident".

Police said the officer was struck at least one time and their injuries were not expected to be life-threatening.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee mentioned today's shooting at a news conference but said he had little information.

The shooting, which unfolded about 3:15pm on Monday (local time) at Austin-East Magnet School on the east side of Knoxville was the latest episode of gun violence in the United States since mid-March. It also makes exceptions for people with certain mental illnesses and criminal convictions.
