DA Fitzpatrick: Derek Chauvin trial ‘changed the narrative about policing in America’”

"I mean, I'm feeling tears of joy, so emotional that no family in history ever got this far", said Mr Floyd to MSNBC. We must make sure other families don't suffer the same racism, violence & pain, and we must enact the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act'.

Meanwhile, crowds are celebrating near the Minneapolis courthouse where Chauvin was convicted.

In the conclusion of one of the most high-profile court cases in recent American history, a Minneapolis jury has found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of the murder of George Floyd.

The jury returned the unanimous verdict after about 10 hours of deliberations over Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The former Minneapolis Police Department officer had denied the three charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter before the court.

She made her comments surrounded by members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"GUILTY! Painfully earned justice has finally arrived for George Floyd's family", tweeted Mr Crump. 'Today we start to change the world'. The legislation, which awaits Senate action, would overhaul standards for police tactics and conduct at the federal level.

Chauvin, wearing a gray suit with a blue tie and white shirt as well as a light-blue pandemic-related face mask, nodded and stood quickly when the judge ruled that his bail was revoked after the verdict was read.

The former officer, who was handcuffed in the courtroom and taken to jail after the verdict, could now be sent to prison for decades. He hugged Attorney General Keith Ellison and trial attorney Jerry Blackwell, whose voice was the first and last heard by the jury as he delivered both the state's opening statement and their final rebuttal. The jury did not ask any questions of the judge during their deliberations.

President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris called Floyd's family immediately after the verdicts were read out and the family appealed to them to push for wider police reforms.
