US administers 215.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines - CDC”

It is not clear whether Mr Biden would consider sharing more AstraZeneca doses before the U.S. has enough vaccine.

The tax credit the administration is offering employers was included in Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief plan that has already been signed into law.

The 100 million-dose goal was first announced on December 8, days before the USA had even one authorized vaccine for COVID-19, let alone the three that have now received emergency authorization.

"Today, we hit 200 million shots".

On an earlier call with reporters, administration officials highlighted research from the Society of Human Research Management indicating about a quarter employees said they would be more likely to get a shot if their employer offered incentives like a gift card, while one-fifth said they would be more likely to get a shot if they were offered additional paid time off.

In his remarks, Biden also praised volunteers, health care workers and members of his staff in remarks Wednesday as his administration nears its goal of administering 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines within his first 100 days in office.

Biden said the country is entering a new phase in its vaccination efforts as it starts to shift its focus from getting the vaccine to those most at risk to the general population.

In Iowa, almost half of the counties are not accepting new doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the state's allotment because demand has fallen off.

While some people are resistant to getting the vaccine because of safety concerns, others feel less urgency about getting vaccinated because they are younger and need a simpler process with fewer obstacles and some encouragement, the administration official said.

The White House is urging larger employers, which have more resources, to provide the same benefits to their workers, and educate them about the shots and encourage them to get vaccinated.

"The progress we've made has been stunning", he said.

"I'm calling on every employer, large and small, in every state, to give employees the time off they need, with pay, to get vaccinated".

"The pace of vaccination isn't linear", Becerra said, adding that "we are on a pretty good pace". Still, it was generally seen within reach, if optimistic.

As the United States this week reached Biden's goal of 200 million shots administered, vaccine supply is starting to outstrip demand in some areas. A third of US adults are fully vaccinated, as well as 26% of the population overall, it said.

"I know it's ambitious, twice our original goal", Biden said.

Biden came into office on 20 January initially vowing to get 100 million shots administered in his first 100 days.
