He added that the second wave the country is facing is "more furious" than expected, which has been the trend worldwide, and appealed to people to adhere to COVID-19 norms strictly even after current restrictions in the state are relaxed.

Two of the new deaths were in people over the age of 90, seven were in their 80s, five in their 70s, two in their 60s and one in their 50s.

"Again, this shows us how devastating the virus can be to people who are older", she said. Another 93,306 doses of vaccine have been administered since Friday - an average of 31,102 per day - bringing B.C.'s total to 1,635,372.
