Biden expected to announce new CDC mask guidance Tuesday”

Dr. Anthony Fauci strongly hinted that the guidance will be updated this week, saying he didn't want to get ahead of the CDC, but they "will be coming out with updating their guidelines of what people who are vaccinated can do and even some who are not vaccinated".

Clinical trials for the three vaccines authorized in the USA - made by Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson - did not measure whether vaccinated people could still spread the virus, only whether they were protected against getting sick from it.

Last year, the coronavirus pandemic forced many summer camps to close and families to change their plans.

The CDC's current guidelines state that "masks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with people who live in your household". But as an increasing number of people in the USA are getting vaccinated against COVID-more than half of adults now have at least one shot-many of us are hoping we'll be able to go mask-free soon. Masks should not be worn while eating, drinking or swimming, the guidance notes.

The CDC has been cautiously expanding its list of activities that it says are low-risk for fully inoculated people, which now includes domestic travel.

"To decrease the risk of getting and spreading COVID-19, CDC recommends that campers do not engage in close-contact sports", the guidance says. Staff and campers are urged to have multiple masks on hand to replace ones easily that get wet or dirty.

During a Facebook live chat with Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) last August, Fauci advised people to "get as much outdoors as you possibly can", noting that "superspreader" events nearly always happen indoors in places like "nursing homes, meat-packing, prisons, choirs in churches, congregations of weddings and other social events where people get together".

It suggests creating cohorts, or groups of campers and staff that stay together throughout the day, and limiting exposure between them.

The updated guidelines for camps are similar to its rules for schools - with 3 feet between children, and at least 6 feet when eating and drinking.

Most activities should take place outdoors, and camps should adopt ventilation and disinfection practices for indoor spaces.

The updated guidance also emphasizes that camp activities should take place outside as much as possible.
