New Zealand reports 4 new cases of COVID-19”

Flights between Western Australia and New Zealand can resume as early as Monday, health authorities have announced.

To date, 27 people have been in touch with Healthline to say they were in the locations of interest - a coffee shop and public toilet - at the relevant time.

Ministry officials "have conducted a rapid public health assessment for New Zealand", a statement said, and concluded that flights should be "temporarily paused".

"Therefore it is very unlikely the passenger could have COVID-19", WA Health said.

An Air NZ flight and a Singapore Airlines flight from Perth were both cancelled overnight, after revelations a security guard had tested positive at a Perth MIQ facility.

Anyone who has left Perth in the past four days and arrived in New Zealand is advised to check Western Australia's government website to see locations of interest relating to the positive cases.

A hotel quarantine security guard in Perth and two of his housemates have tested positive to coronavirus after he spent several days infectious in the community.

Today's update was provided by the Ministry of Health in a press release this afternoon.

The early detection of the cases, combined with WA's interim restrictions following a snap three-day lockdown last weekend, and ongoing mask wearing rules are the factors the justify holding off on another lockdown, the premier said.

The premier said he would not place the state into another lockdown, and instead revealed masks would still be required by those in the city and the Peel region.

A total of 397 passengers travelled to New Zealand aboard three flights from Brisbane Airport on Thursday.

It was possible more locations of interest could be added, and the same 14-day travel ban would apply to anyone who had visited those locations at the identified times. Attempts to contact the remaining two are continuing today.

WA contact tracers are contacting all the restaurants they visited and locations where they delivered food to direct people to isolate and test for COVID-19. "Please continue to maintain personal hygiene measures and if you're unwell please stay home and call Healthline to work out whether you need to get a test", said Dr Bloomfield.

"While the public health risk is deemed low, we must all remain vigilant as we enjoy the opportunities Quarantine-Free Travel has given us".

Australia has all but stamped out community infections after closing its borders to non-citizens in March 2020, recording just 29,800 cases and 910 deaths.

Meanwhile, almost 60 per cent of the 4000-odd eligible Air New Zealand crew members had received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccine since February while at least 72 per cent had received one dose.

Since January 1 2021, there have been 50 historical cases, out of a total of 446 cases.
