Ontario may shorten interval between vax doses as more supply expected: Elliott”

For the week ending on April 24, the most recent data available, the weekly percent positivity for Middlesex-London was 6.8 per cent, compared to 9.2 per cent for Ontario. The province reported a record test positivity rate of 10.9 on Monday last week.

Ontario administered 33,740 COVID-19 tests in the previous 24 hours, reversing a trend that had seen the province conducting upwards of 50,000 to 60,000 tests a day. Testing numbers are typically down earlier in the week.

Of the newly announced cases, 1,050 are in Toronto, 819 are in Peel, 286 are in York Region, 158 are in Ottawa, and 157 are in Durham.

There were 3,323 resolved cases, outnumbering new cases for two weeks straight now and dropping the active case count to 36,440.

Today's report includes 3,964 recoveries and 29 new deaths.

"Continuing to focus on getting vaccines in the arms of those most at risk will help to stop the spread of COVID-19 in these communities, protect our hospital capacity and save lives".

The province reported 2,303 new cases of the B.1.1.7 (U.K. variant) in Ontario on Tuesday.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is recommending that Canadian provinces give the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to adults 30 years of age and older.

Ontario might shorten the length of time between COVID-19 vaccine doses as it prepares to receive more supply this month.

On Monday, people 18 and older living in the 114 specific neighbourhoods, which have been designated as COVID-19 hot spots, were able to book their vaccine using the provincial booking system for the first time.

Approximately 210,000 first dose appointments were made across the province, including 166,772 at City of Toronto run clinics.

Nearly 1.2 million Canadians have received their first shot of AstraZeneca through their local pharmacies, but now there are rising concerns about the logistics of booking the second shots.
