Police say man was shot and killed near terminal at Vancouver Airport”

RCMP Sgt. Frank Jang said the 28-year-old shooting victim was known to police and the incident was related to a gang conflict that the region has seen lately.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in Canada in a message posted on its Twitter account on Sunday wrote that a man was shot dead this afternoon near the domestic flight terminal [Vancouver International Airport]. The Richmond RCMP detachment said earlier Sunday that its officers had intercepted the suspect vehicle as it fled the scene, and that the suspects inside fired weapons at police.

"Please don't kill one another, stop the violence".

"Enough is enough", he said. No officers were hurt. At least two suspects escaped, and no officers were injured.

Delta's police chief said last week that all police departments in B.C.'s Lower Mainland were working on the shootings.

Meanwhile, YVR said in a statement that the airport is open and safe for workers and those who need to need to travel.

"The safety and security of our employees, community and passengers remain our priority and we are fully cooperating with the RCMP to support the investigation".

The incident caused major traffic delays in several areas of the city including Highway 99, Highway 91 and the Massey Tunnel.

Jang said the most likely route between where the shooting happened and where the burning vehicle was found would be via Highway 99, Highway 91 and across the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Shortly after the shooting, a burned-out vehicle has been found in Surrey, which is believed to be the suspects' vehicle used in the murder, according to a report by the Vancouver Sun. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage to contact the Richmond RCMP or IHIT.

Both Jang and Ng called for a coordinated response between law enforcement agencies to solve the gang shootings and make arrests.

"We must assume that these men continue to be targets and, as such, we are advising the public to be cautious of any interaction with these five individuals", Assistant Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said at the time.

Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said in a statement on Twitter that the shooting was disturbing.
