Boy, 6, Killed in Road Rage Shooting

Boy, 6, Killed in Road Rage Shooting”

A six-year-old boy riding in the backseat of his mother's vehicle on a Southern California freeway was shot and killed in a suspected road-rage attack, after his mother reportedly made an obscene hand gesture at another motorist.

A short time later, an off-duty police officer arrived and performed CPR on the boy, Valdivia said.

Authorities are looking for a white sedan and are asking for the public's help in locating it. Olivera said police are interested in talking to anyone who was driving northbound on the 55 Freeway between Chapman Avenue and the 22 Freeway from 7:55 to 8:15 a.m., especially if their auto has a dash camera.

And he said the bullet "went through the boy's back".

Olivera said the deadly gunshot came from a white sedan and struck the rear of a silver Chevrolet Sonic that was traveling ahead of it.

"Please help us find the people that did this to my little brother", his sister, Alexis Cloonan, said at the press conference.

The mother of the child said they were on the way to school in the carpool lane.

"So she went and she picked him up and he was bleeding on her, she had blood on her clothes".

The person who shot Aiden Leo has not been apprehended by police.

"It was an apparent road rage incident between the two vehicles".

The boy was transported to the hospital, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

The suspect's vehicle was last seen heading north on the 55 Freeway, which was shut down for hours.

Officers could be seen from a news helicopter footage combing the area for evidence.

Police walk the northbound lanes of the 55 Freeway at Chapman Avenue while investigating the shooting.

CBS Los Angeles reported that there have been almost a dozen pellet and BB gun shootings on freeways across Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties over the past three weeks, but Olivera said Friday's road-rage killing was unrelated to those earlier incidents.

Such shootings aren't unprecedented on California's busy roadways.

The suspected shooter remains at large and officers are looking for a white sedan, Olivera said.

No serious injuries have been reported so far in the 91 Freeway shootings.
