Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan lit up Twitter on January 6 commission

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan lit up Twitter on January 6 commission”

The House easily approved the bill last week with 35 Republicans signing on.

"We have people scaling the Capitol, hitting the Capitol Police with lead pipes across the head, and we can't get bipartisanship", Ryan shouted.

Two other Republicans spoke in favor of the legislation: Fred Upton and Peter Meijer of MI.

House Resolution 3233 would allow commissioners to investigate the incident and issue recommendations on preparations and responses to violence and domestic terrorism. Republicans went on to lose both of Georgia's US Senate seats in a pair of special elections in January, handing Democrats full control of Congress and the White House.

Sixty senators would have to vote for the measure for it to pass; the Senate is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, meaning 10 Republicans need to support the legislation if there is unanimous Democratic support.

"I do think that the 9/11 commission had a lot more information available to it when it started than this one would have", the senator said. She wants assurances that the panel's staff, along with commission members, will be bipartisan.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is supporting the commission, telling MetroNews such body is necessary to prevent another insurrection.

"January 6 is going to haunt this institution for a long, long time", said Upton.

As Senate Democrats push for a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 riot at the Capitol, Sen.

'I strongly support the creation of an independent commission, ' Collins told ABC on Sunday morning.

"They don't have the Romney's, Little Ben Sasse's and Cheney's of the world", he contended, referring to Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who supported the bill in a floor vote Wednesday afternoon and Sens.

"We were faced with an up or down vote, with no ability to amend it". There is no replacement for an independent bipartisan commission with a mandate to produce a definitive report to the public to clear away myths and fictions and get right on the facts. Katko, that panel's top Republican, was battling two tides that have overwhelmed Congress in recent years: the almost overwhelming potency Trump still has among Republicans and jagged-edged partisanship that often confounds even mundane legislation.

US President Donald Trump speaks at a rally of his supporters in Washington, January 6, 2021. Most of the 35 Republicans backing the commission were moderates.

Calling Republicans who supported the legislation "weak and ineffective", Trump charged that Democrats have a much easier time sticking together on votes than his party.

"In terms of the values and the principles that the Republican Party stood for under those five presidents are hard to find these days". Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is opposed and former President Donald Trump is demanding the effort be quashed. Multiple courts rejected challenges to the election, and election officials refuted claims of inappropriate actions.
