U.K. PM Boris Johnson marries fiancée in private ceremony

U.K. PM Boris Johnson marries fiancée in private ceremony”

He is only the second British prime minister to marry while in office, and the first in almost two centuries with Robert Jenkinson the last in 1822.

The wedding was previously expected to take place on 30 July 2022.

Current rules say wedding guests and staff are required to wear face coverings, except when eating or drinking or where exemptions apply. Ms Symonds shared a picture of their son yesterday in a field of bluebells - which some speculated was a nod to the tradition of "something blue".

Classical music was said to be played as they walked down the aisle and exchanged vows.

One-year-old Wilfred attended the wedding, as did two official witnesses.

According to eyewitnesses, the cathedral was closed during the ceremony, which lasted half an hour.

"It's not very often we have weddings here, and when they came out they were all bungled into a vehicle".

"The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married on Saturday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral", a Downing Street spokesman said.

They live in the four-bedroom residence at No11 Downing Street rather than the smaller flat in No 10. In February both announced their engagement.

Ms Patel wrote on Twitter: "Many Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Johnson @BorisJohnson and @CarrieSymonds". The proposal reportedly came following his win in the December General Election.

Ms Symonds was first romantically linked to Mr Johnson, 56, by the media in early 2019.

He later married Marina Wheeler in 1993, but they separated in 2018.

Ceremonies are permitted for up to 30 people in Covid-secure venues. Their original plans to marry past year were delayed by the Covid pandemic.

But dancing is advised against due to the increased risk of transmission, except the couple's traditional first dance.

Northern Ireland's First Minister Arlene Foster also wished them a "huge congratulations" on the micro-blogging site.

It comes just a few days after Downing Street refused to comment on reports the pair were planning a "lavish" summer wedding.

The wedding comes at the end of a hard week for the Prime Minister in which his former aide Dominic Cummings branded him unfit for office.

The reported nuptials come after a tumultuous political week for Johnson, who was accused by former top aide Dominic Cummings on Wednesday of bungling the government's response to the coronavirus and being "unfit for the job".
