Hamas: It's 'unacceptable' that Ilhan Omar equated us with Israel

Hamas: It's 'unacceptable' that Ilhan Omar equated us with Israel”

Omar's views on Israel and Palestinian rights have often put her at crossroads with fellow Democrats, and GOP members often highlight her stanceto justify calls for her removal from committees.

A dozen Democrats rebuked Omar's comments in a response statement, provoking House Democratic leadership to publish a letter shortly after that warned against "drawing false equivalencies", but fell short of decrying the remarks as antisemitic.

Backlash against Omar stems from a video tweeted Monday in which she states that "We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity".

As criticism of her grew, Omar issued a clarification, saying her tweets had been focused on investigations by the International Criminal Court and were "not a moral comparison between Hamas and the Taliban and the US and Israel". But on Twitter, she seemed to compare Israel and the United States not only to Hamas, considered a terrorist group by the State Department, but also to the Taliban.

Hamas highly appreciates Omar's stances in support of justice and the rights of the oppressed around the world, foremost among them is the just rights of the Palestinian people.

"To be clear: the conversation was about accountability for specific incidents regarding those ICC cases, not a moral comparison between Hamas and the Taliban and the U.S. and Israel", she said. Ms. Omar seemed to allude to those pleas in her combative tweet. "We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the US, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban", it said.

Omar at first did not budge from her position, spending the day retweeting other progressive members of Congress, such as Reps.

"I think that she clarified her remarks and we accept that, and she has a point that she wanted to make and she has a right to make that point", Pelosi said. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who defended her against the outrage from the Jewish Democrats.

Federalist Publisher and Fox News Contributor Ben Domenech said on "Special Report with Bret Baier" Thursday Democrats should approach the latest episode of antisemitism from Minnesota Rep. Ilham Omar with greater concern.

This isn't the first time Omar has drawn prominent criticism from within her own party. She later said, "I was in no way equating terrorist organizations with democratic countries with well-established judicial systems". "She is a liability to the committee, and she's a liability to the United States of America". There still is a substantial constituency within the party that supports Israeli policies, however, and their continued backing is essential to long-term Democratic electoral success.

The six-person Democratic leadership team, which includes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, issued a rare joint statement following Omar's statement, writing they "welcome [Omar's] clarification".

Our people under occupation enjoy their inherent right to resist the occupation by all available means, including armed resistance, and here we remember the famous saying of the worldwide activist Nelson Mandela: "It is always the oppressor, not the oppressed, who dictates the form of the struggle", what our people have done over the years The past, and what we are doing now, is a legitimate and guaranteed right. They did not respond before their public chastisement, said the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe private discussions. Even the Middle East is more than Israel and the Palestinians.

Greene, who was removed from her committee assignments earlier in the year over her promotion of violence against prominent Democratic politicians, did not apologize.

I know you oppose the Court's investigation in both Palestine and in Afghanistan.

She posted an excerpt of an expletive-laden voice mail she said she'd just received with a caller saying he hopes she gets "what's coming for you".
