Australia's Victoria reports zero Covid-19 cases as lockdown ends

Australia's Victoria reports zero Covid-19 cases as lockdown ends”

Australia's Victoria state said new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 rose slightly on Thursday as state capital, Melbourne, prepares to come out of a two-week hard lockdown to contain its latest virus outbreak. Masks are required indoors and outdoors at all public spaces.

Both new cases are linked to a known previous case of coronavirus and have already been isolating.

Australians will likely continue having to endure snap Covid lockdowns even as vaccination numbers rise.

They trio tested negative for Covid-19 and their three-day test is due today.

'If you've got people at home who are walking around sniffling and saying "I've just got a cold", ask them if they've had a test'.

"What I'm a little bit concerned about is being well-advanced now - we're nearly two and a half to three weeks into this outbreak - but we're still finding new branches", he said.

Mr Weimar, who has been dubbed Victoria's "Covid Commander", warned people could be infected with Covid without knowing.

The freaky advice out of Melbourne comes just two weeks after South Australian chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier urged fans at an AFL match not to catch the ball if it hurtled toward them because it could be contaminated by Covid-19.

"I think I'm a little bit concerned that testing numbers are starting to drop, and I would I think whilst we're still dealing with new cases emerging, I would really encourage everyone to help us keep those testing numbers up".

The list of exposure sites in Queensland continues to grow, as authorities investigate the travels of a couple who escaped Melbourne's lockdown.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the woman's husband tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday night.

They also can not not travel to New Zealand within 14 days of the exposure.

Some 16,932 Victorians were tested for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to Monday morning, while 13,764 received a vaccine dose at state-run hubs.

Three cases were reported in hotel quarantine on Saturday bringing the state's number of active cases to 74.

More than 400 people who visited the listed exposure sites at the relevant times have also come forward to Queensland Health.

Traces of the virus have been found in wastewater unexpectedly across Bendigo, in the Glenroy-Pascoe Vale area and in some eastern suburbs in the local government areas of Whitehorse, Manningham and Monash in recent days.

The woman developed COVID-19 symptoms on June 3, indicating they may have been infectious when they left their Melton home.

Western Australia reclassified Victoria as a "low risk" state from 6pm Friday, but Victorians making the trip will still need to isolate for 14 days.
