Covid-19: Jersey finds Delta variant becoming 'dominant strain'

Covid-19: Jersey finds Delta variant becoming 'dominant strain'”

The CDC's classifications define three classes of variants of COVID-19 - variants of interest, variants of concern, and variants of high effect.

Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunization at PHE, said: "These hugely important findings confirm that the vaccines offer significant protection against hospitalization from the Delta variant".

What are the symptoms of the Delta variant? Experts say it could potentially be evolution of the virus, but it may also have something to do with the age of those infected.

However, the secretary maintained that people who have received both jabs should be protected by the new variant.

"It is now much more likely than six months ago that unvaccinated people can get infected with the virus, and if they get infected with the virus, it's four times more likely than before that they end up in hospital", Juni said. Labuan recorded a Covid-19 incidence rate of about 25 cases per 1,000 population in the fortnight of May 31 to June 13, the highest in the country and more than five times higher than Selangor's incidence rate.

Dr. Gerald Evans, chair of infectious diseases at Queen's University, said there could be a variety of reasons for this.

"I think it's really hard to compare this emerging data to what we know about the other ones because it's not a controlled study", he said. However, new data from the Zoe app suggests these have now been overtaken by complaints of headaches, a runny nose and sore throat.

Initially, the classic COVID-19 symptoms were said to be a cough, fever and loss of smell or taste.

Health leaders in Milwaukee County believe the Delta coronavirus variant is concerning to residents as the Centers for Disease Control announced there is growing evidence the variant is more contagious and causes more severe cases.

"I certainly have not, what is pretty clear though is that there's fewer and fewer cases here in Canada as well".

According to Health Canada, it accounted for a majority of COVID-19 cases identified in March and April.

"If you don't feel well you can get a test and it's really easy to get a test", said Bogoch.
