During the hospital visit, an injured man who had been shot in the leg insisted on standing up from his bed to greet the President and First Lady as they entered his room.

Trump acknowledged the immense scale of the tragedy, stating that the mass murder filled the nation’s heart with grief. He lamented that loved ones had been torn away forever, and he prayed for national unity, peace, and a day when the innocent would be safe from hatred and fear.

The local sheriff reported that the shooter’s actions were extensively pre-planned. In the aftermath, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi participated in a CNN town hall, speaking via satellite to the family of a woman who died in the attack to make a promise regarding gun control. Additionally, Feinstein released a statement on her website arguing against the ease of modifying legal firearms into automatic weapons, stating that the only purpose of firing so many rounds so quickly is to kill large numbers of people.
