Delhi Police Busts Fake Degree Racket Where 50000 Forged Certificates Were Sold

On January 30, 2018, it was reported that the Delhi Police had busted a racket involving the sale of approximately 50,000 forged degrees and school certificates.

The Delhi Police arrested three individuals, including a Delhi University graduate and two associates, who operated 27 fake websites. These websites offered forged certificates for Class 10, Class 12, and various graduate and postgraduate degrees. The operators managed the websites using a single mobile phone number and a single email address, creating portals designed to look like official university and school board platforms.

According to police reports, the investigation began after a complainant saw a newspaper advertisement in Rajasthan for the SRKM Education and Welfare Society. The complainant paid Rs 1.30 lakh to the owner of the society to secure Class 10 admissions and certificates for himself and six friends. They subsequently received marksheets, migration certificates, and other documents purportedly from the Andhra Pradesh board through the mail.

The fraud was discovered when the complainant applied for a passport in Sikar, Rajasthan, and was informed that the Class 10 certificate was fake. A police team led by Hari Nagar Station House Officer Vijender Singh investigated the case. Although the office of the education society was found closed, technical surveillance led to the arrest of an associate. Police recovered a sample forged certificate, incriminating WhatsApp communications, and the mobile phone used to manage the fraudulent websites.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kumar stated that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other agents and co-accused involved in the operation. Authorities were also working to identify the individuals who purchased the fake certificates to secure employment.
