Chargers set off celebratory cannon after losing to Dolphins

Chargers set off celebratory cannon after losing to Dolphins”

The Dolphins (0-0) finally get to play a game after their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was rescheduled because of Hurricane Irma.

The Dolphins offense has a lot of work to do but there is a lot of potential with Jay Cutler who seemed to be far less cavalier in his Dolphins debut. He was so ingrained in Pittsburgh that one of the Steelers investors left a bottle of French red wine in his locker after a game late last season.

While Los Angeles did face one of the NFL's toughest defenses in the Denver Broncos, the team did not perform to the level it should have. Jay Ajayi ran for 10 yards on the first play of the drive, then ran for two yards on each of the next two plays and caught a one-yard pass from Jay Cutler on the final play before the field goal. Edge rusher Cameron Wake, who stayed in Miami, was the last to report. Based on the strengths of L.A.'s defense, some throws will be up high and others on Parker's back shoulder. And yes, the Chargers are still happy they went with Koo over Josh Lambo to start the season. Timmons, a free-agent signing, had been w/the Dolphins in CA ahead of game vs. Chargers but is not now. Don Shula had David Woodley at quarterback but benched him for Don Strock in the game, two years before Dan Marino would be handed the keys.

Cutler will have to be wary of the Chargers' pass rush, which is led by Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. Each had 1 1/2 sacks in opener.

The Chargers also are adding flag runners for pregame player introductions and purchased the cannon from longtime fan Ron Dixon for game-day festivities, part of the experience at games in San Diego since 1961.

Tight end Hunter Henry stood near the sideline, hands on helmet. In fact, it was too quiet. Henry, who was expected to take over for Antonio Gates, played just 23 snaps in the opener and wasn't targeted AT ALL. However, his skill set brings plenty to the table. If Miami can't run the ball or stop the run, life will be like it was during last year's 1-4 start. But despite all their efforts, the Chargers were ultimately to fall short, and the game ended 24-21.
