Mobile will support Sprint’s 1Million Project if merger gets approval

Mobile will support Sprint’s 1Million Project if merger gets approval”

Today, the unconventional executive told the FCC in a letter (via TmoNews) that prices will not go up if T-Mobile and Sprint get the thumbs up to combine.

With those caveats, T-Mobile said it would not object to being held to the three-year price guarantee as a formal condition of the FCC approving the merger.

The newly proposed deal blasts back at those that oppose the merger by saying that it would lead to higher prices which could harm consumers by taking one of the four major players out of the wireless space, USA Today reported.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere poses with Spring CEO Marcelo Claure before a Senate subcommittee hearing.

In the latest discussions, the T-Mobile/Sprint merger is said to complete its course as soon as the current quarter ending on March 31. My management team and I can make this personal commitment because we believe in delivering on our promises, and we know if we do not, we will lose credibility and the trust of our customers. It is undergoing an antitrust review by the Justice Department and the FCC must decide that the transaction is in the public interest.

In its more detailed proposal, T-Mobile (tmus) said it might raise prices under some circumstances it termed "not within the control" of the merged company.

The 4Competition group includes some telecom unions like the Communications Workers of America, which fear job losses from the merger, as well as more direct rivals like Dish Network (dish) and Cspire.

Whether Sprint and T-Mobile, together, could act as a stronger bulwark against AT&T and Verizon than they could separately is a key point of debate.

But from another perspective, Clyburn's involvement with T-Mobile serves to inoculate the company from critics who argue the deal will be largely bad for consumers because it will mean the elimination of a competitor from the US wireless market. Sprint's (s) stock price, up 16% over the past year, was unchanged.
