House Democrats to get more Mueller evidence; Trump calls witness 'sleazebag'

House Democrats to get more Mueller evidence; Trump calls witness 'sleazebag'”

The Judiciary Committee voted to recommend such a measure to the full House, but instead lawmakers on Tuesday are expected to vote on a more general one.

"Given our conversations with the Department, I will hold the criminal contempt process in abeyance for now". Nadler's announcement comes a day before the House is scheduled to vote on a resolution authorizing Nadler and his committee to initiate civil legal action against Barr for his refusal to turn over Mueller report-related material. "I don't even want to talk about him", Pelosi, a Democrat, said at a Washington conference in reply to a question about Trump's latest barrage of personal insults.

Approval of the resolution is all but certain as Democrats control the House 235-198, but it is unclear what Nadler will do after the vote.

"The department will share the first of these documents with us later today", Nadler, a New York Democrat, said in a statement Monday.

Republicans scoffed at the idea of going ahead with the vote after the Justice Department agreed to provide the access that Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., had been trying to get.

"It is nearly unheard of for the Justice Department to release raw evidence to another entity so that the Justice Department can be second guessed", he said. However, he has indicated that pursuing court enforcement or other steps may still be necessary.

A court case could come quickly for McGahn who has refused to hand over subpoenaed documents and show up for testimony.

Nadler said in his statement he would give the justice department time to comply.

In a second tweet on Monday, while Dean was testifying, Trump again said that Dean is a disgrace. "He should begin to co-operate immediately or face the consequences".

President Trump has exerted executive privilege over the entire report.

Last month, in his only public appearance as special counsel, Mueller maintained that there was "not sufficient evidence to charge a conspiracy" with regard to whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and said Mueller's report on the matter exonerated him. Dean testified that Mueller has provided Congress with a "road map" for investigating Trump. Dean drew parallels between Nixon and Trump in his testimony. He pointed to the way the presidents used their pardoning power in an attempt to influence witness testimony, and tried to to seize control of the investigation and direct the efforts of prosecutors.

"He left", Trump told reporters at the White House. He added his oft-repeated claim, "No Collusion - No Obstruction!"

Previously, the Department and committee Democrats had been locked in a standoff over the committee's subpoena for the full, unredacted Mueller report and all its underlying evidence.

But many Republicans have criticised the hearings, saying now that the Mueller report is out, it is time to move on.
