Apple plans to release 'largest iPhone ever' this fall

Reports in March 2018 indicated that Apple planned to release three new smartphones in the fall, including its largest model to date. This flagship device, reportedly codenamed “D33” and referred to as the “iPhone X Plus,” was expected to feature a 6.5-inch screen. While the body of this larger model was said to be equivalent in size to the iPhone 8 Plus, its screen would be approximately one inch larger.

The upcoming lineup was expected to build on features introduced with the iPhone X, such as wireless charging, facial recognition, and bezel-less screens. The new models were rumored to include a gold color option, next-generation A12 processors, and a potential 512GB storage option.

Battery capacities were expected to vary across the three planned models. The direct successor to the iPhone X was projected to use a 2,716 milliampere-hour battery, while the lower-priced model was expected to feature a capacity between 2,850 and 2,950 milliampere hours. The 6.5-inch version was said to carry a battery between 3,300 and 3,400 milliampere hours.

The introduction of a lower-cost model was seen by analysts as a strategic response to slower first-quarter sales of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, as well as a general stagnation in the global smartphone market.
