Revised Range Rover Sport includes plug-in hybrid model
Ref. NG/BBCAOn October 4, 2017, Jaguar Land Rover unveiled a revised Range Rover Sport lineup, introducing the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model. The release followed a commitment by the carmaker to offer electrified variants across its entire vehicle range starting in 2020. This plug-in variant, the P400e, represents a shift from the brand’s existing diesel hybrid, which relied solely on regenerative braking.
The P400e features two driving modes: Parallel Hybrid and EV mode. Drivers can also select a save setting to preserve battery charge, or use a predictive energy optimization function that utilizes GPS altitude data to adjust power usage based on road gradients. According to the manufacturer, the hybrid produces 64 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide emissions and achieves 101 miles per gallon on the combined cycle, with a fuel consumption rating of 2.8 liters per 100 kilometers. The vehicle generates 472 pound-feet of torque from zero revolutions per minute. A full charge can be completed in 2 hours and 45 minutes using a 32-amp home wall box.
The refreshed Range Rover Sport also introduces an updated chassis and a dual-touchscreen infotainment system. Non-hybrid options include a new 296-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, alongside various four-cylinder, V6, and V8 petrol and diesel options. This includes an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 supercharged petrol engine producing 567 horsepower, up from 542 horsepower.
The entry-level model, powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine, was priced from 61,315 pounds. The updated lineup was scheduled to go on sale in early 2018.
