Americans Increasingly Skeptical of Value of Four-Year Degrees

Americans Increasingly Skeptical of Value of Four-Year Degrees”

A poll released last week by Fox News shows that 55 percent of American voters disapprove of Trump's performance as president and believe he is "tearing the country apart".

The majority of Americans believe the U.S. is deeply divided and don't see the United States as an exceptional place to live, according to a new poll. Men were also slightly more supportive of the practice than women, and whites people were 9 percentage points more supportive of gay marriage than black people.

But there are divisions in Republicans' attitudes toward social changes, according to the Journal. The poll shows that 30 percent of people feel either very positive or somewhat positive about the former Secretary of State.

That 64 percent saying immigration strengthens the nation is the highest percentage on this NBC/WSJ poll question that dates back to 2005, when just 41 percent said it strengthened the country.

But once again, there's an important political divide in this current poll: 81 percent of Democrats and 85 percent of Clinton voters say immigration strengthens the United States, versus just 44 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Trump voters who agree.

Americans are becoming increasingly divided on cultural and economic issues, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

In past NBC/WSJ polls - in 1997, 2007, 2008 and 2014 - either majorities or pluralities said that globalization has been bad. Eight months into the Trump presidency, just 46% of Republicans say they lack confidence in their children's future-a 42-point swing that is more dramatic than improvements in the economy would seem to justify.

Forty-three percent of rural inhabitants polled expressed optimism in their local economy, while 57 percent of urban inhabitants polled said they were optimistic about their local economy.

By comparison, 45 percent say they're more concerned that the government will not do enough to regulate access to firearms. Democrats showed nearly the exact opposite opinion; 24 percent to 71 percent respectively.

According to the poll, 28 percent of respondents called America the single best place to live in the world, while another 54 percent said America was among the few best places to live or above average.

An overwhelming majority of those asked called America either totally divided (21 percent) or mainly divided (59 percent), while 20 percent called the country either mainly united or totally united.

USA political divisions reach far beyond Washington policy to fall along economic, cultural, geographical and educational lines.

The survey also finds that the share of Americans who believe that the country has a "strong national character" is shrinking. His approval rating among Republicans who voted for other primary candidates in 2016 stands at 66 percent.
